Ask yourself some of these questions:
- What did Jesus do while on earth? What would he do if he were here today? What would be of utmost concern to him? What would receive the bulk of his attention and efforts?
- What are some of the images and names given to the church (family, flock, etc.) and what might those tell us about our purposes?
- What did the early churches do? Do you think they were all identical?
- What did Christ tell his followers to do?
You may think in these terms as well:
- Why does the church exist?
- What are we to be?
- What are we to do?
- How are we to do it?

Hey, Zach, I'm looking forward to Sunday night's discussions and Wednesday's.
I found a book you may find interesting. It is published the Barna Group our of California. It is a revision of an older book, and is co-authored by Frank Viola and George Barna. It is entitled, are you ready? - "Pagan Christianity."
Though I'm just a couple of chapters into the book, it is intriguing. It is an historical perusal of how the modern "church" evolved over the centuries. The authors are biased towards the house church movement, but their data is well documented. Footnotes are prolific for further investigation.
Since we are looking at the church on Sunday evenings, I thought you might be interested in this little (less than 300 pages) book. See you on the Lord's day.
